The thing I am proudest of is that The Verge consistently hires people with no experience but obvious drive and ambition and gives them the space and freedom (and yes, irritating guidelines) that help them go be their own leaders, and then we celebrate their work no matter where they are. Becca is going to be one of the best examples of that yet.
I think this post from Nilay is so profound—someone who gets that taking care of employees is not at odds with managing your organization. I would add that it takes courage to celebrate staff leaving for better opportunities since it is not the norm. I lay is probably a great leader and a self-aware manager to have this kind of insight.
